The fourth and final book in the hit Neapolitan series returns to lifelong friends Elena and Lila as it moves onto what Elena calls “the most painful part of our story.” The novel opens as Elena returns to Naples. The two women eventually reconnect, now middle-aged mothers confronting issues of parenthood and advancing age. In the only U.S. interview the novelist conducted for this book, the famously reclusive author who writes under a pen name told Vanity Fair that the work “mixes pleasure and pain, obscurity and clarity.”
