Fragments of Ferrante: John Lanchester, Ann Goldstein, Catherine Taylor and Dawn Foster

Despite her consistently high position in the bestseller lists, and her status, as declared by Time magazine earlier this year as one of the 100 most influential people on the planet, the true identity behind the pseudonym ‘Elena Ferrante’ has remained, since the publication of her first novel L’Amore molesto (Troubling Love) in 1992, a closely guarded secret. To mark the impending publication of her latest work Frantumaglia (Europa Editions, November 2016), we have convened a panel of distinguished commentators to discuss the ‘Ferrante phenomenon': novelist and journalist John Lanchester; Elena Ferrante’s translator Ann Goldstein and deputy director of English PEN Catherine Taylor. The discussion will be chaired by Dawn Foster, correspondent for the Guardian on social affairs and politics and regular contributor to the LRB.
